Creating My House Events: Behind the scenes
While we were in our initial stages of editing our old branding, and refocusing on our values and mission, we kept realizing that to really truly define who we are and why we do what we do, that a rebrand was in order.
While simultaneously doing introspective work on our brand goals, vision, and other verbiage for our business as a team, Barrie was researching new logos and type faces to send to Anna Koeferl, who would ultimately execute the new sophisticated look of My House Events. After years of asking ourselves, are we are caterer or planner?
We decided it’s okay to be in between both worlds, a curator, and that we know for sure we are in the events world. So, why not just say it like it is, My House Events.
When we had originally decided to choose colors, we mixed, matched, and even voted with our Instagram followers to get our colors decided in roughly 1 day’s time. It was about this time that we realized we didn’t want to push new colors onto our brand — we wanted a whole new logo and name.
When first drafts came in, the whole team was pretty certain what we did and did not want in a logo. We came to agree on a fun overall style but intentional shapes. Funky but sophisticated fonts, and of course, it had to have our new favorite colors included.
Our team: Danielle Lee (top left), Kelsey Parris (top right), Barrie Schwartz (center), Stephanie Benitez (bottom left), and Katherine Bowler (bottom right) all together for new team portraits after all working together to make the new branding effort happen, including pulling off a great industry luncheon.
As a team, we discussed and voted until we came towards something that really worked. A sans serif font to keep a contemporary feel, with a minimalist table-style shape that reminds us of our main goal — bringing people together over a meal. We even included a small squiggle to represent a table cloth to show our high-end style in a fun and playful way.
The end result? Our beautiful logo! With complementary fonts and subtle navy overlays on photos that simultaneously add sophistication and fun to our website and client materials (which some of you will be seeing real soon).
However, this new look is more than just a logo, it’s about a renewed sense of our mission. A mission that creates economic and creative work opportunities for chefs that not only gives back to the individual chefs but impacts the larger culinary community as a whole. By bridging the world of corporate events and weddings to a growing network of independent chefs in order to provide them with new streams of revenue, we hope to change the way the private events industry thinks about supporting local economies.
We really hope you’ll love our new look and renewed sense of purpose as much as we do. We’ve taken a collaborative approach to nearly every phase of this work to create something every member on this team is proud of. We’re so pleased to know that each of us is represented in this work in some way, and this project is something that took all of our perspectives into consideration.
