A Letter from Barrie:

Hi Guys,

Between the new ways of staying busy, cooking, workout videos, and playing with my dog, I think about the world and work.

Barrie Schwartz

Thoughts of the world and our community send me through a whirlwind of emotions - deeply anxious, hopeless, hopeful, creative ...all of which slowly settle in and a quiet numbness takes over. Similar thoughts happen when I think about work and this next phase of My House Events.

In two short and long weeks we've entered a phase of learning how to hang on to our business while a possible worst case scenario is looming. We're also trying to to ensure everyone on our team still has their job, with a pressing moral dilemma of whether it's safe for our ecosystem of chefs to work right now.

Before these times we had a company book club and learned about radical transparency, the importance of delivering messages with compassion, and creative ways to run a business.

These lessons are presenting themselves as a result of this pandemic and I can't help but feel proud and hopeful with the community we've built together and the communities of others across the world.

We've talked as a team through all current scenarios and we're using this time to sharpen our tools and live our mission to the fullest - ensuring there are opportuntities for small businesses with a focus on women and minority owned businesses. Such opportunities include feeding first responders and feeding open essential businesses.

We have a large network of local chefs who are wanting to safely work and keep their businesses alive. Not sure what the future holds, but the conversations with our chefs, our internal team, and our clients has felt communal and cooperative.

This gives us hope that opportunities will continue to arise despite these hurdles, and we are sharpening our tools to ensure our best advocacy for each chef we’re working with.

Cheers to the light within everything.

To hear more from Barrie, listen to this brand new podcast that we co-produced with Oyster Sunday called We'll be Right Back: The Future of Hospitality. The mission: to help business owners and individuals in the hospitality/service industry share their stories of resiliency and community as we all adapt and chart a new path forward. We will also be highlighting the resources and initiatives happening across Greater New Orleans in the wake of COVID-19.
